Template:GND
Usage
lembaThis templates creates a link to Integrated Authority File (IAF) aka Gemeinsame Normdatei (GND) records in the Deutsche Nationalbibliothek (DNB) database. Since it only displays the string "GND" followed by the linked number it can be used in free flow text as well as inside of the various {{citation}} and {{cite xxx}} templates (via that template's |id=
parameter).
At present, the template just allows these codes to be given in some documented way and links to both the corresponding entry in the database as well as the Wikipedia GND article (in order to provide some explanation). It thereby helps to frame the code in some machine readable form and to standardize the appearance.
In the future the template could be expanded to make the given code available as meta-data or to provide some error checking.
