Copyright
For copyright on this website should we use Malawi 2016 or Malawi 1989 CubanoBoi (pakuchezgela) 13:20, 25 Sekutembala 2022 (UTC)
@Tumbuka Arch please add en:File:Shield of Mariel.jpg to here, it was made in 1960, over 50 years ago and it’s a official government coat of arms so it’s allowed for both copyright acts CubanoBoi (pakuchezgela) 13:36, 25 Sekutembala 2022 (UTC)

- great.
- Where should I add it? On which article? Tumbuka Arch (pakuchezgela) 13:51, 25 Sekutembala 2022 (UTC)
The Mariel article you made and the bauta one, both Cuban municipalities CubanoBoi (pakuchezgela) 14:29, 25 Sekutembala 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks alright.
- Got it. Tumbuka Arch (pakuchezgela) 14:32, 25 Sekutembala 2022 (UTC)
Flags in infoboxes
Hi, should we do flags in infoboxes? Cuz this look ways better then this CubanoBoi (pakuchezgela) 23:34, 25 Sekutembala 2022 (UTC)
- Flags inside infobox is best than putting it (the flag) outside.
- This is great though names don't need to start with flags. But a single flag inside an infobox representing the article is necessary.
- Also I am currently working on advance templates infoboxes. Will tag them them. Tumbuka Arch (pakuchezgela) 04:08, 26 Sekutembala 2022 (UTC)
- @Tumbuka Arch so should we add them? theres only 8k pages, if we press random alot most of those could get the flags CubanoBoi (pakuchezgela) 21:28, 27 Okutobala 2022 (UTC)
History of Malawi
I've seen that you have cereated Mbili ya Malaŵi, but there is alreary and article called Mdauko wa chalo cha Malaŵi, which I think already covers that topic. However, I believe "Mbili ya Malaŵi" is a better title. --Caro de Segeda (pakuchezgela) 19:22, 29 Sekutembala 2022 (UTC)
- Before creating that, I exactly checked the older one first.
- Tried to compare what is being said. The title Mdauko wa chalo cha Malaŵi literary means "Custom of Malaŵi" and Mbili ya Malaŵi literally means "History of Malaŵi".
- They seem to be similar though not exactly.I also tried and almost thought of merging these pages but I did not yet.
- I failed to merge them because the first one uses b instead of ŵ which is so confusing with words of homophones (words with same spelling and sound but different meanings). If I had to merge it, it simply meant I had to go through it and change all the b into ŵ which is so tiresome. Also I thought of deleting it, but then I thought of other page watchers would question it and they may get uncomfortable. What do you think? Should I merge it or what? Any opinions will be appreciated.Thanks. Tumbuka Arch (pakuchezgela) 19:39, 29 Sekutembala 2022 (UTC)
- Does every single B need to be changed to ŵ? Because it can be done automatically in Word. If not, then it will be more tiresome. If so, I suggest to delete the parts related to history in the article "Mdauko wa chalo Malawi" and keep creating the article "Mbili ya Malawi". Thus, you will have two articles talking about two different topics.
- Also, I would really appreciate if you could finish translating the text I sent you, it's been more than 15 days, the text is not that long and you have been creating a lot of articles since then, which means it is not due to the lack of time. If you prefer not to translate it please feel free to say it to me. Don't worry as it will tbe the last text I ask you to translate :) Caro de Segeda (pakuchezgela) 06:39, 30 Sekutembala 2022 (UTC)
- Hello, not every b needs to be changed into ŵ but other words. And they are too many of them.
- I will paste the translations today. Tumbuka Arch (pakuchezgela) 08:08, 30 Sekutembala 2022 (UTC)
Parties of Malawi
Hi, I’m thinking about making parties of Malawi (like I did for Chipani cha Communist ya Cuba) and I’m wondering if you could help? CubanoBoi (pakuchezgela) 16:02, 1 Okutobala 2022 (UTC)
- @CubanoBoi that sounds great. Yes I could help. You deal with images,I deal with content words. Is it okay? Tumbuka Arch (pakuchezgela) 11:34, 2 Okutobala 2022 (UTC)
Can you translate this? Template:PD-Computer Program also upload these two files under that template en:File:MCP Cockerel.png & en:File:Mcp flag 3.gif CubanoBoi (pakuchezgela) 13:13, 2 Okutobala 2022 (UTC)
- Hi, I did translate.
- Where is this template on enwiki so that I just import its data here without losing any lebels or images in it. Tumbuka Arch (pakuchezgela) 14:19, 2 Okutobala 2022 (UTC)
- Should I try to get a mod role? like the smallest one? CubanoBoi (pakuchezgela) 22:17, 2 Okutobala 2022 (UTC)
That template is for Malawi copyright only, since this langauge wiki is located in Malawi it has Malawi copyright CubanoBoi (pakuchezgela) 14:33, 2 Okutobala 2022 (UTC)
- @CubanoBoi Greetings.
- Sorry I haven't been responsive and active much.
- The file you told me to upload I actually did upload.
- And what other templates did you mean I should try to make.
- Even though I am not that best on templates but I could.Caro is the one who knows much. But I could try.
- Also can you accept to be an uploader here? Tumbuka Arch (pakuchezgela) 06:45, 6 Okutobala 2022 (UTC)
Configuration for newcomers
Hello!
I noticed that you made some edits at Special:EditGrowthConfig. If you have any question about it, let me know! :)
I also visited Special:Homepage where I saw a banner inviting me to expand short articles. However, the banner goes nowhere. Is it normal?
Best, Trizek (WMF) (pakuchezgela) 13:20, 10 Okutobala 2022 (UTC)
- Hello, thanks for stopping by.
- Well, the banner is just a poster as you saw it without a "clickable" link to short articles. This was mainly put to help new users who might not know what to do next after they found themselves here.
- Currently, this wiki doesn't have many active users; so the banner is also an invite.
- "...the banner goes nowhere", were you suggesting I should put a link on it? I mean if one clicks on banner it should take them where they should go (where the banner suggests)?
- Thank you. Tumbuka Arch (pakuchezgela) 15:20, 10 Okutobala 2022 (UTC)
- I only saw the banner at Special:Homepage, as it is the only place where visible. I read "please help here", and I thought that it was an invite. So I clicked on it! ;) What was your goal? Encouraging newcomers to select "expand short articles"? I'm asking so that we can improve things. :)
- A possible improvement would be to highlight the existence of Wikipedia:Mafumbo ghakukhwaskana na Wikipedia (QUESTIONS AND QUICK HELP). As you don't have much users being active, it could be a place actively monitored where newcomers can ask for their questions. The banner would be useful there, with a link to the quick help..
- FYI, soon, a new task will be available: adding links between articles. There is already a task about it, but the new one would suggest automatically links to add. It would add more diversity to the offered tasks. Speaking of, in your opinion, what do you expect from newcomers?
- Thank you, Trizek (WMF) (pakuchezgela) 15:48, 10 Okutobala 2022 (UTC)
- Great.
- The banner will have a link to quick help.
- From a new comer, someone new on Wikipedia, I expect them to ask as many questions about how to contribute here as possible. Questions about how to write articles, what type of articles are needed here (in reference to "What Wikipedia is not" ), expanding short articles, etc. Tumbuka Arch (pakuchezgela) 16:08, 10 Okutobala 2022 (UTC)
- If your goal is get questions from newcomers, you should consider to gather a few more experienced users, to reply to questions. We can provide a tool that connects newcomers with these experienced editors. Then they can discussion on what is important to the wiki. Would it interest your community? Trizek (WMF) (pakuchezgela) 10:38, 21 Okutobala 2022 (UTC)
- @Trizek (WMF) for sure it will.
- Matter of fact, I physically conduct a small group of Wikipedians whom we discuss many things about how to improve Wikipedia. The group currently has few members but we are looking forward to have more other new members to join us.
- So that idea will skyrocket the interest in users to join us contribute here.
- That tool will be one of the best things. Tumbuka Arch (pakuchezgela) 10:53, 21 Okutobala 2022 (UTC)
- Great! I'll recontact you later this week, as we will deploy some new features about mentorship on Wednesday. Trizek (WMF) (pakuchezgela) 12:28, 24 Okutobala 2022 (UTC)
- @Trizek (WMF) Thanks! That will be great. Tumbuka Arch (pakuchezgela) 13:43, 24 Okutobala 2022 (UTC)
- Hello @Tumbuka Arch!
- As promised, I'm back with some explanation on how to create a list of mentors. These mentors will be automatically assigned to new accounts. These users can then contact their mentor if they have a question.
- To set it up, I invite you do the following steps:
- visit Special:EditGrowthConfig and turn mentorship on. It will be setup for the entire wiki.
- visit Special:EnrollAsMentor and sign up as a mentor. You can ask other trusted users to do it as well.
- visit Special:ManageMentors, where mentors are listed.
- visit (and bookmark) Special:MentorDashboard, where you can find the list of newcomers assigned to you (it is updated every 24 hours) and manage your preferences as a mentor.
- Let me know if anything is unclear in these instructions! I'm more than happy to help. Trizek (WMF) (pakuchezgela) 15:14, 26 Okutobala 2022 (UTC)
- @Trizek (WMF) Thank you for the help.
- Done all steps.
- I have registered.
- Thanks for your steps; were easy and straight forward.
- Also have bookmarked my Dashboard for quick interaction.
- Thank you. Tumbuka Arch (pakuchezgela) 17:49, 26 Okutobala 2022 (UTC)
- @Trizek (WMF) Thanks! That will be great. Tumbuka Arch (pakuchezgela) 13:43, 24 Okutobala 2022 (UTC)

Translation
Hi, can you translate Template:PD-Art? Thank You! CubanoBoi (pakuchezgela) 01:52, 26 Okutobala 2022 (UTC)
- Hi!
- Been a while.
- How are you?
- Cool, let me translate it. Tumbuka Arch (pakuchezgela) 06:52, 26 Okutobala 2022 (UTC)
- Done!

- @Tumbuka Arch also as you see here https://glosbe.com/en/tum/socialist communist translates to "Cikomyunizimu", is this true? CubanoBoi (pakuchezgela) 00:57, 27 Okutobala 2022 (UTC)
- Hi, yes it's cool.
- Could use Cikomyunizimu Tumbuka Arch (pakuchezgela) 06:21, 27 Okutobala 2022 (UTC)

- I was editing EcuRed and wikipedia, mostly EcuRed to add copyright stuff like https://www.ecured.cu/Archivo:Copyright-Autor_desconocido.png https://www.ecured.cu/Archivo:Copyright-50_a%C3%B1os_despu%C3%A9s_muerte.png and more CubanoBoi (pakuchezgela) 20:55, 26 Okutobala 2022 (UTC)
- Great, I think we need to add that. Tumbuka Arch (pakuchezgela) 06:22, 27 Okutobala 2022 (UTC)
- @CubanoBoi Also I think we need to focus on other places than just one country. If you may see this wiki, it's having alot of info about Cuba, America and so on which is not that important to speakers of this language. Someone might come and criticize this wiki for being only on one side and having unuseful content to native speakers. I suggest we also deal with other countries, subjects and interests, especially interests about Africa, and particularly country Malawi (which is this wikis home country). Enwiki has lots of articles regarding Malawi.
- You do translations with the tools and I will review it to make sure it's making good sense. And @Caro de Segeda will be helping us with templates. If you can't help with translations then you could help me inserting images there as I will only be dealing with content.
- Thank you.
- Let me know what you think about this. Tumbuka Arch (pakuchezgela) 08:28, 27 Okutobala 2022 (UTC)
- I am curious @CubanoBoi, which tools do you use to translate to Tumbuka? Caro de Segeda (pakuchezgela) 09:04, 27 Okutobala 2022 (UTC)
- @Caro de Segeda Mostly glosbe.com/tum and in my user page there is another link that’s a pdf of translation CubanoBoi (pakuchezgela) 12:17, 27 Okutobala 2022 (UTC)

- But how about the grammar? Or are you translating the English/Spanish sentence word by word and then @Tumbuka Arch corrects it? Caro de Segeda (pakuchezgela) 12:24, 27 Okutobala 2022 (UTC)

- Yes, you 100% correct!
- However, to avoid misinterpretion I decided to leave the copyright words in English because even the words Copyright are still in English. Tumbuka Arch (pakuchezgela) 06:26, 27 Okutobala 2022 (UTC)

Question from Trizek (WMF) (17:56, 26 Okutobala 2022)
Hello dear mentor! This is a test to see how it works from Special:Homepage. --Trizek (WMF) (pakuchezgela) 17:56, 26 Okutobala 2022 (UTC)
- If you get a question like this, please don't forget to ping newcomers: they may not think about returning here to see the reply. We are working on improving this. :)
- To remain informed about the next steps, I encourage you to subscribe to the Growth newsletter. Trizek (WMF) (pakuchezgela) 17:57, 26 Okutobala 2022 (UTC)

Languages
You have two categories for languages:
I presume one is in plural and the other one in singular, but I am not sure. I usggest keeping the one in plural. --Caro de Segeda (pakuchezgela) 09:09, 27 Okutobala 2022 (UTC)
- @Caro de Segeda yes very true.
- Think we should keep Viyowoyelo to mean "Languages".
- Got otherwise?
- Also @CubanoBoi, what you think?
- Discussion here. Tumbuka Arch (pakuchezgela) 12:25, 27 Okutobala 2022 (UTC)
- Languages, for sure. Caro de Segeda (pakuchezgela) 13:55, 27 Okutobala 2022 (UTC)
- Done! thanks for redirecting.

Short for moderater, basically an admin CubanoBoi (pakuchezgela) 18:04, 29 Okutobala 2022 (UTC)
- I want to know.
- Did you already had thoughts of becoming a sysop here or you said it because I mentioned you to take part in discussion?
- Either way, I will reply in both cases.
- If you said it because I mentioned you then you got it wrong, I mentioned you to take in the discussion of moving pages Chiyowoyelo and Viyowoyelo since the other page was created by you.
- But if you already had thoughts of becoming a sysop here, then what a great news!
- You qualify to be admin here and since you have been so helpful, you are welcome and eligible.
- However, we already have a case of Caro on meta of the same kind still being discussed and is on hold by Stewards.
- We are the same voters and we are the same people with the case.
- I would suggest to wait and see what's gonna happen.
- Please let me know if this is not okay to (with) you.
- Also, I would ask @Caro de Segeda to share their mind on this.
- Thank you. Tumbuka Arch (pakuchezgela) 21:41, 29 Okutobala 2022 (UTC)
- I believe it will harm more than help the fact that I ask to be elected sysop here so I would definitely recommend @CubanoBoi to become one. Also, I won't be have as much time as before so, due to these two reasons, I prefer not to do anything to do. You can always ask me for help if you need but I think it is better if we do it like that. Caro de Segeda (pakuchezgela) 19:51, 30 Okutobala 2022 (UTC)
No, mostly just to post pictures tbh. I wanted to be mod in this for like a few weeks CubanoBoi (pakuchezgela) 22:01, 29 Okutobala 2022 (UTC)
- Cool, no problem.
- You will be, but can we wait till they close that nomination on meta?
- Thanks. Tumbuka Arch (pakuchezgela) 22:06, 29 Okutobala 2022 (UTC)
- Okay I see, to post/upload media. Great!
- Got it. Tumbuka Arch (pakuchezgela) 22:09, 29 Okutobala 2022 (UTC)
Btw, can you translate
- Donetsk People's Republic
- Luhansk People's Republic
- Russian occupation of Zaporizhzhia Oblast
- Russian occupation of Kherson Oblast CubanoBoi (pakuchezgela) 20:04, 30 Okutobala 2022 (UTC)
Translation request
Let's try to get the vital articles done bit by bit. Could you please translate this?
- John Chilembwe's motivation
- The ideas, people and events that contributed to John Chilembwe's motivation and influenced him to undertake the uprising in 1915 were considered by the Commission of Inquiry shortly after the rising was defeated, and have exercised historians of Malawi during much of the period since his death.
Thanks --Caro de Segeda (pakuchezgela) 12:01, 22 Novembala 2022 (UTC)
- Hi, I am so busy these days (right now).
- I will get back to article creations soon, as we used to do.
- Right now, I don't have enough time to sit and type.
- Maybe next month.
- Thanks. Tumbuka Arch (pakuchezgela) 17:45, 22 Novembala 2022 (UTC)
Growth team newsletter #23
Welcome to the twenty-third newsletter from the Growth team!
Highlights
- Mentorship: We released the new structured mentor list to all wikis. This change makes mentorship easier to setup, manage and use.
- Positive reinforcement: An improved impact module is available for testing.
Positive reinforcement: an improved impact module to test
The goal of the Growth team is to encourage newcomers to try editing for the first time, and encourage them to keep editing. We want to increase newcomers' motivation by showing them how impactful their edits are.
Newcomers have access to an impact module; you can find yours at Special:Impact. The revised impact module provides new editors with more context about their impact. It will display the number of edits, the number of thanks received, the last time they edited, the number of consecutive days they edited, and the number of views for the articles they edited.
This module will soon be available at our pilot wikis starting December 1. You can already test this new module at Beta Wikipedia. For safety reasons, do not use your regular account and password at Beta wiki. Create a new, specific account for this wiki, with a different password.
Structured tasks: improvements based on patroller feedback
After the deployment of Structured tasks, we received feedback from various communities regarding how patrollers of recent changes were feeling overwhelmed by an increase in edits to check, and how some edits were poor quality or of poor relevance.
We made several improvements based on the feedback we received. Several points of improvement have already been addressed:
- Patroller fatigue:
- By default, newcomers can complete up to 25 "add a link" tasks and 25 "add an image" tasks per day. If patrollers are overburdened, each community can use Special:EditGrowthConfig to lower that limit.
- Quality of edits: what constitutes a "quality edit" is not a well defined concept. We initiated a discussion and summarized our findings. We also worked on the following improvements:
- Add a Link
- Underlinked articles are now prioritized, so it's less likely that newcomers are adding links to articles that are already have a lot of links.
- The confidence score was increased, so suggestions are more likely to be accurate.
- The default number of suggested links per article has been lowered to 3. This can be changed at Special:EditGrowthConfig. Communities can also exclude articles containing certain templates or categories from being suggested.
- Add an Image
- Lists will no longer receive "add an image" suggestions.
- Disambiguation pages will no longer receive "add an image" suggestions.
- We have many further improvements we plan to make to "add an image" in early 2023. [1]
- Add a Link
The Positive Reinforcement project will also address some of the concerns around encouraging newcomers to progress to higher value edits. The Growth team will soon work on strategies geared at "Leveling up" newcomers so they progress from easy to more difficult tasks.
Recent changes
- All Wikipedias now have the same onboarding experience. Previously, at a few wikis, 20% of new accounts didn't get the Growth features when they created their account. These 20% of new accounts were used as a control group, in order to know if the Growth features were changing newcomers' behavior. Experiments have shown that Growth features improve activation and retention, and as we want to provide the same onboarding experience at all Wikipedias, we have decided to remove the control groups. We will utilize control groups when testing new features, and German Wikipedia keeps a control group at their request. [2]
- The quality score for "add a link" suggestions will change. We will suggest less links for each article, but they will be more accurate. We will first deploy it at our pilot wikis, and then to all other wikis where this feature is available. [3][4]
- Growth's features FAQ has been updated and expanded. This page centralizes all the information about Growth features. We invite you to read it, and, if you can, to translate it.
News for mentors
- All Wikipedias can now setup and manage a mentorship program in an easier way.
- We changed the process to make it more reliable, easier to improve and easier to use.
- Wikipedias where mentorship hasn't been enabled yet can turn mentorship on following a new process. When done, mentors can sign-up by visiting
Special:MentorDashboard
. - Wikipedias where the list of mentors already existed have been converted to the new system.
- A new special page —
Special:ManageMentors
— now displays the list of mentors. This page can be transcluded on any other page. There are also new processes to signup as a mentor or to quit mentorship, and we improved community mentorship management.
- The Mentor dashboard's "Your mentees" module will have a new footer, called "Recent changes by your mentees". This footer will include a link to Recent changes, where mentors can see only edits made by their own mentees. [5]
Deployments
- Add a link has been deployed to a 5th round of wikis. [6]
